Nope, not the show. My life. Sometime in the last 6 months, I graduated law school, took the bar, and moved to Philly with my boyfriend. Basically, I started a new life. So here I am in Philly, no job, no friends (in Philly), oh and no bar results. So to keep myself busy I am going to really attack this blog. I have always loved to bake and cook and with all the free time I have on my hands I have been doing it a lot so look forward to yummy food posts. I also plan on blogging about what I discover in Philly - restaurants, shops, you name. So here is to my new life, with only my closet, and no longer being the Jap Across the Street.

Gossip Girl and Martini's

So for our very good friend Adorable's birthday, JAP and I threw her a Gossip Girl themed party... basically, it was an excuse for all of us to get dressed up like we were in NYC (not usually acceptable in the middle-of-nowhere town we live in) and drink martini's. By the way, no wonder people love martini's! After about two, you are just giggly.
In choosing our GG outfits, we each chose a character to best model ourselves after. The obvious choices for the females were Serena and Blair. No one really wants to look like Jenny Humphrey (unless its Halloween) or Vanessa Abrams (unless they live on a commune). Surprisingly, JAP and I were both Serena, which is probably one of the whole times in history that we have agreed on fashion to such a degree. Our friend's Adorable and Feisty Latina were more Blair-esque.
JAP copied a Serena outfit from early on in this season with black shorts and a black translucent top (care of moi!) with a pink belt, jacket and some adorable Coach shoes that she never had occasion to wear (thank god I didn't make her get rid of those in last springs cleaning.... and don't worry JAP, I'm coming for those). She accented the outfit with the signature jewelry piece that Serena always sports.
I went a little early-GG Serena with some tights and sexy boots (from JAP's closet) covered in a long, heavily beaded, zebra print peasant shirt. I used some cheap jewelry purchased from Forever 21 for a little bling. The shirt collar itself served as the classic Serena jewelry.
The party was a success and we all looked fabulous!
Recommendations if you want to throw your own GG party... look through all of your friends closet's before you go out and buy an outfit. We all want to be Serena and Blair, but we don't come with an AMEX black card, so mix and match. So until next time, remember, when in doubt wear red! XOXO The Red Head!

Hendersonville/Asheville same thing
This is a bit outdated but oh well. For memorial day weekend we decided to visit our friend in "Asheville" however, Asheville was actually Hendersonville and Hendersonville was actually middle of nowhere Hendersonville, 30 minutes outside of the town. I don't know why we were shocked, when it comes to our friends, life isnt always what it seems.
But regardless it was gorgeous and we all "enjoyed" each others company. To start off the trip I thought I would fit in with the mountain field with this Loft top, Jcrew shorts, and DV by dolce vita sandals that I love and bought randomly in some store in NY last summer.

We ended up getting lost in Hendersonville at 2 am, where ghosts hide. But thanks to Jen's droid, we made it back alive.
My outfits for the rest of the trip are not worth reliving - seeing as for hiking I wore shorts that were So 5 years ago, and was obvious by the tightness around my thighs. oh well.
What is memorable is the SHOPPING Asheville has to offer. See the girls needed a break and we headed on over to Asheville, about an hour from where we were staying. We headed on over to Minx boutique where I got this awesome wallet and pink skirt (see photo below). The other store we went to was Virtue which was a Forever21/H&M esque store with some great affordable options. Asheville surprisingly has great shopping options and if you are ever there check out those two stores.
Now heres the picture with the pink skirt from Minx - ignore the dirty bedroom.

JK - its not letting me upload so look out for it later.
Hope you like :)

Green is my favorite color..
Although I am a Jewish American Princess, my favorite time of year is St. Pattys Day :) Green is a weird color, I don't own much of it in my closet, but what I do own has some sort of st pattys flair. Thankfully last week was spring break and we got to spend the weekend in Chicago and celebrated an early SP Day, Chi-town style. As you can see from up top, I GO ALL OUT. Yes those are beer glasses and suspenders and I love. Although none of the items are from the Red Head's closet, its just a fun fashionable idea. You don't always have to be so perfect. So for one (or two) days a year, wear lots of green!

Jeggings... Point of Conflict
So the JAP loves this new jeggings craze. Like she has found the Holy Grail, she raves about them and there ability to look like skinny jeans, yet feel like the most comfortable leggings ever made. I tried a pair on... top-heavy is an understatement in regards to the way they looked on me. However, there are some who can pull off the look beautifully. And it seems the longer I boycott them, the more people I see in these miracle paints. So heads up JAP, I may be raiding your jeggings collection tonight!

When in doubt, wear Red
Every girl has the same thought everytime she gets ready for a night out --> "I have nothing to wear... I hate everything I own." Forget the thousands of dollars we spend on clothes in a lifetime. Nobody wants to think about the dress they bought three years ago. We YEARN for something new, something fantastic, and hopefully something that will match our favorite pair of jeans. However, not every girl is as lucky as me. As soon as these thoughts go through my head... I just walk across the street. The J.A.P. (Jewish American Princess for all you P.C. nuts) always has just the right belt or necklace to make my plain ol' t-shirt look like a brand new outfit. And lucky for us, we are close enough to the same size to share almost everything (her legs are longer than they look;).
The second great (and sometimes not so great) perk about living across the street is that the closet comes with very blunt opinions. Never fear that you will go out in public with the wrong shade of brown belt on! The JAP from across the street will scoff (well more like giggle) immediately and wisk the belt away, leaving you as ashamed as a 14 y.o. boy caught reading porn by his mother. But don't worry, you can just take another spin through the closet. And ladies, trust me, you will find something else you like. Bottow line, I never leave our humble, sleepy hollow neighborhood looking like one of those fashion "don't" pictures you see in Glamour.
The JAP is, once again, saving my a$$ tomorrow by loaning me her Theory suit jacket to pair with my Tory Burch Jumper Dress. My closing argument may suck, but at least I'll look good!
If you are not as lucky as us and don't have a best friends closet within walking distance, just remember the famous words of Bill Blass, "When in doubt, wear red."
Love,
The Red Head from Across the Street
P.S. JAP --> stop using the Gossip Girl sign off!
A Blogger's First: Dedicated to the Red Head Across the Street
For months I have wanted to start a blog. I am not creative, I am way less fashionable than I wish I was, and I am definitely not funny. Oh I also have the worst grammar ever, be prepared. But in my next life I have plans to be someone's personal shopper. No more of this boring lawyer business. To rid me of my cravings for fashion and shopping, I have begged and pleaded with the Red Head to start this blog. And so we begin.
The Red Head and I share quite different tastes when it comes not only to shopping but to men. However, with fashion, as with men, there are a few things that suit us both. For instance, I have permanently stolen this gray dress with a cowl neck from the Red Head. To spice it up, I paired it with my favorite Fuchsia Suede Linea Paolo flats. It shows off the shoes while serving as the perfect spring dress!
Thank gosh for this dress or else I probably would've gone naked to school - woops, that might not work in law school. Welp, this is just a mini preview of my not so funny blogging skills. Stay tuned for the Red Head's insight into my wardrobe.
